however. The lane curved to the right and when they rounded the corner, it was to see the very edge of Ogden's frock coat vanishing through a gap in the hedge.
Dumbledore and Harry followed him onto a narrow dirt track bordered by higher and wilder hedgerows than those they had left behind. The path was crooked, rocky, and potholed, sloping down-hill like the last one, and it seemed to be heading for a patch of dark trees a little below them. Sure enough, the track soon opened up at the copse, and Dumbledore and Harry came to a halt behind Ogden, who had stopped and drawn his wand.
Despite the cloudless sky, the old trees ahead cast deep, dark, cool shadows, and it was a few seconds before Harry's eyes discerned the building half-hidden amongst the tangle of trunks. It

Where's mine?" demanded Ron at once, his eyes wide.
"That's already Harry's, idiot," said Bill. Two days ago Arkie Philpott had a Probity Probe stuck up his... Well, trust me, this way's easier."
"Thanks, Bill," said Harry, pocketing his gold.
"E is always so thoughtful," purred Fleur adoringly, stroking Bill's nose. Ginny mimed vomiting into her cereal behind Fleur. Harry choked over his cornflakes, and Ron thumped him on the back.
It was an overcast, murky day. One of the special Ministry of Magic cars, in which Harry had ridden once before, was awaiting them in the front yard when they emerged from the house,

The huge snake emerged to climb slowly up Voldemort's chair. It rose, seemingly endlessly, and came to rest across Voldemort's shoulders: its neck the thickness of a man's thigh; its eyes, with their vertical slits for pupils, unblinking. Voldemort stroked the creature absently with long thin fingers, still looking at Lucius Malfoy.

"Why do the Malfoys look so unhappy with their lot? Is my return, my rise to power, not the very thing they professed to desire for so many years?"

"Of course, my Lord," said Lucius Malfoy. His hand shook as he wiped sweat from his upper lip. "We did desire it – we do."

In the field of world policy I would dedicate this nation to the policy of the good neighbor. The neighbor who resolutely respects himself, and because he does so, respects the rights ofothers. The neighbor who respects his ob1igation, and respects the sanctity of his agreement, in and with, a world of neighbor. If I read the temper of our people correctly we now realize what we have never realized before, our inter-dependence on each other, that we cannot merely take, but we must give as well. That if we are to go forward, we must move as a trained and loyal army willing to sacrifice for the good of a common discipline, because without such discip1ine, no progress can be made, no leadership becomes effective. We are all ready and willing to submit our lives and our property to such discipline because it makes possible a 1eadership which aims at the larger good. This, I propose to offet we are going to larger purposes, bind upon us, bind upon us all, as a sacred obligation with a unity of duty hitherto evoked only in times of armed strife.

WASHINGTON, Jan 1. — When George W. Bush goes back to work on Tuesday, the president-elect will have three major Cabinet positions left to fill — and soon he will have a contentious Congress to face as well.
Bush spent most of the New Year's weekend at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, returning today to the governor's mansion in Austin — even though he has resigned as chief executive of the state. He was working on Cabinet appointments, aides said.Bush has said he would completely stock his Cabinet by the end of this week, and the next announcement is expected Tuesday. The Fed cut its key fed funds rate by a half percentage point to 6 percent Wednesday. An interest-rate cut is bullish for stocks because it lowers borrowing costs and spurs economic activity. The Nasdaq Composite Index surged 324.83 points, or 14.17 percent, to end at 2,616.69, its largest gain in both point and percentage terms since the market was founded in 1971. The blue-chip Dow Jones industrial average climbed 299.60 points, or 2.81 percent, to 10,945.75, its eighth- largest point gain ever and its strongest close in two months. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 Index jumped 64.29 points to 1,347.56, for a gain of 5.01 percent. The Fed action came only a day after the market got off to a dismal start for the New Year when tech stocks plummeted 7 percent. The selloff had followed

Harden was already a winner even before receiving the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Pollock. Many of the ladies wore exceptional jewelry borrowed from favorites like Harry Winston and Fred Leyton. Ellen Burstyn sparkled in a bedazzling multi-carat necklace with matching earrings. Both contained yellow diamonds to match her outfit. Julie Andrews was another who was weighted down with more stones than a Sopranos casualty and Catherine Zeta-Jones showed off some mighty big rocks, including an enormous topaz dangling from her neck. The one drawback for those decked in diamonds, though, was that along with the jewels came the bodyguards. Anyone who had on more than a few carats got the additional adornment of high security.

Hours after his latest arrest, actor Robert Downey Jr. was canned from the TV show Ally McBeal.
Downey, who is scheduled to appear in court next week in connection with a November drug arrest, was picked up at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday while walking on Washington Boulevard in Culver City, Calif. Culver City police Lt. Dave Tankenson said Downey's behavior as he walked suggested he was under the influence of something illegal. Downey, who submitted a urine sample, was charged with being under the influence of a controlled substance and released into the custody of his parole officer. He checked into a rehab facility shortly afterwards."Mr. Downey was cooperative," said Tankenson. "He was described as being pretty solemn and disappointed, [and] didn't say a whole lot." He said the arresting officer did not immediately recognize the actor.

Rooster is a very observant person. So observant to a point people sometimes believe they may have psychic abilities. It has not been a proven fact, but their keen sense of always be right and on top of things leads people to this belief. Roosters are perfectionists. They have to have everything from a desk to a car to a home very organized. In work research papers must be spelled correctly and retyped several times. Along with this trait, they also like to be in control. Losing control of a situation could cause them to be less than perfect. Vanity is of must importance to them. Spending a lot of time getting ready to go to a party or even going to work, they must look their best. Being noticed is something a Rooster looks forward to in being in public. They also tend to enjoy being out all the time. The Rooster is known to be a very trustworthy person. Your secret would be safe with a Rooster. They are loyal to friends and family. Being honest and straightforward is apart of why people enjoy the Rooster’s company. It can also get them into trouble however when the truth is not what we want to hear. The perfect mate for a Rooster would be an Ox or a Snake.

"Not too hot, you know," said Anne anxiously. Oh, was it really wise to go?
"Do not you fret, Mrs. Doctor, dear. Susan is not the woman to burn a wee man. Bless him, he has no notion of crying."
Anne tore herself away finally and enjoyed her walk to the Point after all, through the long shadows of the sun-setting. Captain Jim was not in the living room of the lighthouse, but another man was--a handsome, middle-aged man, with a strong, clean-shaven chin, who was unknown to Anne. Nevertheless, when she sat down, he began to talk to her with all the assurance of an old acquaintance. There was nothing amiss in what he said or the way he said it, but Anne rather resented such a cool taking-for-granted in a complete stranger. Her replies were

Of course, there was no wedding, but Rose asked me to go and see them married. I went, but I was sorry I did. I'd seen Leslie's face at her brother's funeral and at her father's funeral--and now it seemed to me I was seeing it at her own funeral. But Rose was smiling as a basket of chips, believe me!
"Leslie and Dick settled down on the West place--Rose couldn't bear to part with her dear daughter!--and lived there for the winter. In the spring Rose took pneumonia and died--a year too late! Leslie was heart-broken enough over it. Isn't it terrible the way some unworthy folks are loved, while others that deserve it far more, you'd think, never get much affection? As for Dick, he'd had enough of quiet married life--just like a man. He was for up and off. He went over to Nova Scotia to visit his relations--his father had come from Nova Scotia--and he wrote back to Leslie that his cousin, George Moore, was going on a voyage to Havana and he was

Was it a dream? Was it one of those nightmare things in which you find yourself engaged or married to some one you hate or don't know, without the slightest idea how it ever came about? No, she, Anne Shirley, was lying there, wide awake, in her own bed, and Jane Andrews was beside her, calmly proposing for her brother Billy. But she didn't want to do anything rash so she asked for a week to consider; and two days later she was at a meeting of the Sewing Circle at his mother's and there was a book called `The Complete Guide to Etiquette,' lying on the parlor table. Ruby said she simply couldn't describe her feelings when in a section of it headed, `The Deportment of Courtship and Marriage,' she found the very proposal Nelson had made, word for word. She went home and wrote him a perfectly scathing refusal; and she says his father and mother have taken turns watching him ever since for fear he'll drown himself in the river; but Ruby says they needn't be afraid; for in the Deportment of Courtship and Marriage it told how a rejected lover should behave and there's nothing about drowning in that. And she says Wilbur Blair is literally pining away for her but she's perfectly helpless in the matter."

Paul had talked so much to Anne about his mother and father that she felt as if she had known them. She thought his mother must have been very like what he was himself, in temperament and disposition; and she had an idea that Stephen Irving was a rather reserved man with a deep and tender nature which he kept hidden scrupulously from the world.
"Father's not very easy to get acquainted with," Paul had said once. "I never got really acquainted with him until after my little mother died. But he's splendid when you do get to know him. I love him the best in all the world, and Grandma Irving next, and then you, teacher. I'd love you next to father if it wasn't my duty to love Grandma Irving best, because she's doing so much for me. You know, teacher. I wish she would leave the lamp in my room till I go to sleep, though. She takes it right out as soon as she tucks me up because she says I mustn't be a coward. I'm not scared, but I'd rather have the light. My little mother used always to sit beside me and hold my hand till I went to sleep. I expect she spoiled me. Mothers do sometimes, you know."

so intently.
She knew Paul was ten but he looked no more than eight. He had the most beautiful little face she had ever seen in a child. . . features of exquisite delicacy and refinement, framed in a halo of chestnut curls. His mouth was delicious, being full without pouting, the crimson lips just softly touching and curving into finely finished little corners that narrowly escaped being dimpled. He had a sober, grave, meditative expression, as if his spirit was much older than his body; but when Anne smiled softly at him it vanished in a sudden answering smile, which seemed an illumination of his whole being, as if some lamp had suddenly kindled into flame inside of him, irradiating him from top to toe. Best of all, it was involuntary, born of no external effort or motive, but simply the outflashing of a hidden personality, rare and fine and sweet. With a quick interchange of smiles Anne and Paul were fast friends forever before a word had passed between them.
The day went by like a dream. Anne could never clearly recall it afterwards. It almost seemed as if it were not she who was teaching but somebody else. She heard classes and worked
